Political Prisoners
As of September 2024, there are more 300 political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The cases featured here are examples from the most recent crackdown against civil society that began in December 2022 and are emblematic of the various ways in which the Azerbaijani government misuses its judicial system to punish independent actors in the country. The diversity of the government’s targets, from civil society leaders to labor activists to academics, demonstrates the far reaches of the government’s intolerance.
