Teymur Karimov is a founder of the independent YouTube news channel Kanal-11. The channel covers various social and political issues, including corruption in the western Dashkasan District and the treatment of military veterans by Azerbaijani authorities. In connection to his journalism, Karimov was harassed several times. In 2022, he was arrested in front of a government building. In 2020, he was beaten after conducting an interview. In July 2023, when he broadcasted a critical video report on Dashkesan District Executive Head, he was summoned to the police station under various pretexts. He also received phone calls requesting that he stop video reporting. 

On December 11, 2023, the Anti-Organized Crime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested Karimov and his whereabouts were unknown until the next day when the Ministry confirmed his detention to his editorial office. According to officials, he was charged with extortion. Allegedly, after the arrest, he was subjected to physical pressure. On December 12, 2023, the Narimanovsky District Court remanded Karimov to four months of pre-trial detention.

On April 5, 2024, the Baku Court of Serious Crimes began hearings in the criminal case against Karimov.
