Aykhan Israfilov is a board member of the Confederation of Trade Unions Table of Workers under the Democracy 1918 movement and a courier. He participated in the 2023 courier protests concerning the new vehicle registration laws that would restrict their work. Israfilov is disabled as a result of a childhood accident.

Israfilov was detained on August 11, 2023, by employees of the Narimanov District police. On August 12, 2023, the Baku City Binagadi District Court remanded Israfilov for four months of pre-trial detention and placed him in pre-trial detention center No. 3 in Shuvelyan. In September 2023, Israfilov’s sister stated that her brother was placed in dare prison conditions. He was held in the cell for ten people with 18 other cellmates. The cell is cramped, with poor ventilation and lighting. The prisoners take turns sleeping. They do not have drinking water or heating.

On December 19, 2023, trial proceedings began before the Baku Serious Crimes Court. During the pretrial hearing, the court denied the motion on transferring Israfilov under house arrest or to the pre-trial detention N1 in Kyurdakhan, which is adopted to house prisoners with disabilities.

On April 2, 2024, the Baku Serious Crimes Court convicted him under Article 234.1-1 of the Criminal Code (large-scale drug trafficking) and sentenced him to three years imprisonment.
